2nd graders holding their skiers

Today, the second grade students got a little noisy as they tested their engineering skills.  The students were given a materials list and 2 rules to create a downhill skier and apply what they learned about force and motion.  The students raced their skier twice.  Ava Hurt was the winner of the first round.  When asked why she thought hers won she replied, "Because I kept him low to the ground."  After reviewing gravity and friction, the students were allowed time to make improvements.  Levi Hall was the winner of the 2nd round.  When asked why he thought his skier won he replied, "My strategy was to add some more weight and tape on the bottom of the skis to make a smoother surface."
