Skyline R-2 held a Veterans Day program on November 11. Our program began with a welcome/Pledge of Allegiance by Grace Spence and Kennedy Hinote. This was followed by our 6th and 7th graders displaying military branch flags. Next, our 8th graders participated in a flag retirement ceremony, which was followed by poppy flowers being given to each of our Veterans in attendance. Finally, VFW Post Commander John Dobbs announced the winners of this year's Patriot Pen essay contest. Eleven students from Skyline submitted essays. Our winners were:
1st place Lily Trujillo, 6th grade
2nd place Owley Sudderth, 7th grade
3rd place Blake McIntosh, 8th grade
We're very proud of our winners and enjoyed reading their thoughts on patriotism and how young adults can show support for our country. We would like to thank everyone who participated, including middle school teacher Angela McKay who organized the program, PE teacher Shane Gray who dismissed the ceremony in prayer, and head cook Rhonda Nava who prepared a cake for our Veterans to enjoy after the program.
